How to connect to the internet

A company called Spirit provides internet to the College. For any non-urgent WiFi issues, please email it@jch.unimelb.edu.au and a representative from Spirit will contact you directly to troubleshoot your issue.

If your issue is urgent, please call the following number and Spirit will assist you: 1300 007 001

While a resident at the College you will be provided with an individual Spirit account with unlimited data.

You will receive an email with your WiFi Username and Password from Cloudpath Support. It will have the subject line: Wireless Password - JANET CLARKE HALL. If you do not receive an email, please check your spam emails

otherwise please email it@jch.unimelb.edu.au

Please do not share passwords or access to your Spirit account, the College will not be held responsible for unauthorised account access or data usage.

Please note that connecting to Spirit through the College is conditional upon your acceptance of the College's IT User Agreement.

To connect to the internet upon arrival:

 Turn on your Wi-Fi and click on “JCH_Onboarding” this SSID is OPEN and does not require a password

If you are not automatically pushed to the onboarding portal below, please open up a browser and type in 1.1.1.1 in the address bar. 

MAC Users: Please ensure you use Safari to complete the above step

4.  Read and accept the Terms and Conditions and click on start

 - Choose between Students/Tutor (this includes partners of residents) and Guest and click next


5. Enter the username and password provided by the IT Manager (if you do not have this, please email it@jch.unimelb.edu.au) and click on continue

6. Follow the on-screen instructions and download the files and install them. 

Please note: After installing the Ruckus Cloudpath app, you may have to start from step 1 again to complete the installation of the new network (JCH_Student) and connection of your device.


7.. Please note: The next steps can be different on depending on the device you are using (operating system)

- You will get the option to download a file matching your Operating System (e.g. Windows, MacOSX, iOS, Android etc). If you are unsure which file to use, please email it@jch.unimelb.edu.au


8. If any prompts come up asking for permission, please free to allow permissions for the file/profile to install

- As mentioned before this can be different on different Operating System and devices


9. As an example, on Microsoft Windows, you may get the prompt below. Please click "Run"

10. If you see the following prompt, please click "Yes" to install the certificate:

On a Mac, you will see a similar message, please click “Install”.

11. The Cloud path application will start configuring your device and you may see a progress screen similar to the image below depending on your device. 

Please note: After installing the Ruckus Cloudpath app, you may have to start from step 1 again to complete the installation of the new network (JCH_Student) and connection of your device. 


It may take up to 5 minutes for the connection to be configured depending on the device.


12. You should then get a message indicating successful connection to the network, and should now be connected to JCH_Student. If you are not, please email it@jch.unimelb.edu.au

Please note: if you notice Cloudpath software installed on your device, please ensure you do not uninstall the software, otherwise you may lose your connection to JCH_Student and will have to repeat the onboarding process.


Provided you have successfully installed your device profile, you should not have to login again on your device and will remain connected to JCH_Student when you are at the college.
